We can only truly help others when we have learned wisdom. Working on our own happiness helps others.

It’s all a question of motivation. if you help yourself so you can be better assist to others - it’s a good thing.

But also, we should be aware that we might want to help other people - by telling them about religion, by changing or affecting their lives. But unless we have changed the root cause of ignorance in our own lives, we are likely to be acting out of ignorance, or making things worse.

For that reason, the best thing we can do for other people is to hold them dear, but to make private effort in study and meditation to break free of our own problems first.

If you believe in reincarnation through endless time - everyone was related to you at one stage.

Teaching you valuable lessons - actually the most precious people.

Everyone is connected.

Don't believe something because a teacher tells you it's true. Test it in your own life and see if it stacks up.

Strange as it may seem for a religion, one of the strongest beliefs in Buddhism is that you should not believe anything just because a teacher, wise man, book or religion tells you. Instead, you should test it out for yourself, to see if you believe it, and see if it makes sense to believe it in your world.

(Example from text)

Instead of staying ignorant and worrying, Buddhists are taught to trust wisdom and logic.

While we are reminded to be urgent and diligent in our actions, we are also reminded to be forgiving of ourselves and not to worry.

There is a solution to the problem of suffering, individual concerns, and the question of death. The solution to all of these things is outlined in the Eightfold Path.

It is important not to waste our time in fruitless worry. Rather, it is far wiser to spend our time educating ourselves (from the experience of wise people from the past and the present), surround ourselves with fellow practitioners, and to make every effort in practicing the teachings that we find there that we believe.
